Today, Mgr. Paul Gallagher, secretary for relations with states of the Vatican Secretariat of State received the President of the Parliament of Kurdistan and his delegation to the Holy See.
His Eminence thanked the delegation for their presence and the enormous generosity of the Kurdish people in managing the current humanitarian emergency and effort in fighting the terrorists to protect their land and peoples.
The President Sadiq thanked Mgr. Gallagher and the Holy See for the support and solidarity shown. The Kurdish people have always struggled to defend the plurality of ethnic groups residing in the territory, thereby protecting the peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, regardless of religious affiliation. In reference to the Christians, a fundamental component of the territory for its ancient origins, the President invited Mgr. Gallagher to spread the message not to abandon the land and their homes, as it would mean for Kurdistan and the Middle East to lose a priceless value.
Mgr. Gallagher has assured that the Holy See will do everything it can to encourage the Christian community not to abandon the land of Kurdistan. The meeting ended with a mutual exchange of gifts and an official invitation to the Pope Francis and Mgr. Gallagher to visit Kurdistan.
