Yesterday, March 11th, Mrs. Rezan Kader participated at the Conference "Restoring Security and Confidence in a Globalized World", at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", as Keynote speaker.
The Conference was opened with a message of greeting of Pro-rector of “La Sapienza”, Dr. Francesco Avallone and President of Consules C. Graziano Gallitto and saw the intervention of prestigious representatives of the academic world and research institutes in the field of international relations.
The Conference was addressed to international students of different backgrounds interested in supporting a simulation test of the competitions for admission to the United Nations and for which were organized a series of in-depth seminars on security issues, on peacekeeping operations and on global governance to overcome the crisis.
The High Representative Mrs. Kader thanked Rector Frati, President Gallitto and organizers for having granted her the opportunity to attend the Conference as keynote speaker at a time so special for Kurdistan.
Soon it will be the 25th anniversary of the genocide of the Kurdish people and a commemoration ceremony will be held in Erbil so that crimes committed against a particular ethnic group are never forgotten nor repeated. The recognition of the genocide must be an act of responsibility of the international community based on respect for the fundamental values of freedom, human rights, civil and religious tolerance. The Iraqi Tribunal, the Iraqi Parliament other than Swedish, Norwegian and United Kingdom Parliament were the first ones to officially support this campaign and therefore, I invite all national and international institutions to follow their example.
The Kurdish people, who for centuries fight for self-determination and for all those rights enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, will always support the dissemination of peace all over the world and defense of democracy where is violated.
The Kurdistan region is considered an oasis of peace and stability in the Middle East, and despite years of destruction and suffering, is experiencing a moment of political, economic and cultural blossoming. 26 representations of the Kurdistan Regional Government were created abroad, Kurdistan is a multicultural and multi religious country that opened its doors to anyone wishing to visit it and that offers a myriad of opportunities for study and work.
Our political and democratic system is yet young and many are the steps still to be taken but I think Kurdistan is on the right direction.
